How do we know which workloads are ready to migrate to Azure?

We use Azure Migrate — Microsoft's free assessment tool — to automatically discover and analyse every server, VM, database and web app in your environment. It assesses Azure readiness, estimates monthly Azure costs, and identifies dependency groups. This gives you a clear, data-driven migration prioritisation rather than guesswork.

What is the difference between lift and shift, re-platform and re-architect?

Lift and shift (re-host) moves workloads to Azure VMs with no code change — fastest, lowest risk. Re-platform moves apps to Azure PaaS (e.g. Azure SQL, App Service) with minimal changes, gaining managed service benefits. Re-architect rebuilds apps as cloud-native microservices or serverless functions — highest effort but maximum long-term agility and cost efficiency.

How do you ensure data integrity during a database migration?

We use Azure Database Migration Service for ongoing replication — keeping source and target databases synchronised until final cutover. Before cutover, we run validation scripts comparing row counts, checksums and application query results between source and target. Cutover only proceeds when 100% data integrity is confirmed.

What if something goes wrong during migration — what is the rollback plan?

Every workload migration includes a documented rollback plan tested before production cutover. For IaaS migrations, source VMs remain running in parallel until the migrated Azure VM is validated. DNS failback takes under 5 minutes. For database migrations, the source database remains the system of record until the Azure database passes all validation checks.

Do you migrate non-Microsoft workloads like Linux, Oracle or Red Hat to Azure?

Yes. Azure supports Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS, SUSE), Oracle Database, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and a wide range of open-source and commercial workloads. Azure Migrate supports VMware, Hyper-V, and physical server discovery. We've migrated Oracle RAC clusters, SAP environments and complex middleware stacks to Azure.

How do you handle licencing during and after migration to Azure?

Licencing is a critical part of our pre-migration assessment. We analyse your existing Microsoft licences for Azure Hybrid Benefit eligibility (typically saving 40% on Windows Server and SQL Server Azure costs), assess reserved instance opportunities for sustained savings, and provide a full licencing optimisation report as part of the migration plan.
